Expedition Inspiration Event Raises $50,000 for Breast Cancer Research and Honors Idaho Physician with Annual Award

In celebration of breast cancer awareness month, Idaho-based Expedition Inspiration raised over $50,000 to support breast cancer research during the first annual “Be Inspired to Find a Cure for Breast Cancer” event held on October 8 in Boise. Over 400 people attended the event to support breast cancer research and honor Brenda Williams, M.D., a Treasure Valley OB/GYN and breast cancer survivor who has dedicated her time and expertise to increase awareness of this disease by personally investing over $250,000 in cash and in-kind support for breast cancer research.
In recognition of Dr. William’s dedication and fundraising efforts for breast cancer research, Expedition Inspiration has initiated the first Brenda Williams Honorary Young Investigator Award. This award--which will be presented in perpetuity at the Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium held in Sun Valley--will fund the work of junior-level clinical breast cancer scientists who attend the annual symposium to present their research to some of the world’s leading breast cancer scientists. These awardees are evaluated by the Expedition Inspiration Medical Board based on their position among their peers in the areas of innovation, leadership, and the scientific quality of their work.
Breast cancer survivor and climber Laura Evans founded the Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research in 1993. This non-profit organization based in Ketchum, Idaho, raises funds for cutting edge breast cancer research and seeks to raise awareness and educate and support those affected by breast cancer. Since 1995, Expedition Inspiration has funded over $1.75 million in research grants and over $1 million for education and awareness.
