Expedition Inspiration Hosts Fourteenth Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium and Open Forum
The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research held its Fourteenth Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium, February 17 to 21, 2010 in Sun Valley, Idaho. Breast cancer research scientists from around the world attended the Symposium titled, “New Targets for Breast Cancer Therapy”. The world-renowned meeting was chaired by Expedition Inspiration Scientific Advisor, Marc Lippman, MD, one of the leading authorities in the field of breast cancer.
Expedition Inspiration once again hosted a FREE to the community Open Forum, held in conjunction with the Symposium. The Open Forum was open to anyone interested in learning about the latest in cancer research and treatments. Physician-scientist Doug Yee, director of the University of Minnesota Breast Cancer Research Program and James M. Rae, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan were featured speakers. This free to the community presentation took place Thursday, February 18, 2010 in the Limelight Room, of the Sun Valley Inn from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. These brief presentations from these esteemed researchers offered community attendees unique insight into the latest developments in diagnostics and treatments. The Open Forum also included “Meet The Experts” where all 2010 Symposium Presenters offered insight into each of their areas of expertise and a “Question and Answer” Session, where community members asked specific questions of these renowned medical experts. It is, indeed, a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the top researchers in the world! Commonly discussed topics include targeted treatments, clinical trials, alternative therapies, estrogen replacement and preventative measures.
Expedition Inspiration also presented its 2009 Young Investigator Award recipients at the Open Forum. Laura G. Gonzalez, PhD at the Center for Personalized Diagnostics, The Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University and Bushra Ateeq, PhD, Michigan Center for Translational Pathology, University of Michigan received grants from Expedition Inspiration in 2009 and will speak about their research projects that EI is supporting.
