HELP BREAST CANCER TAKE-A-HIKE

Expedition Inspiration incorporates a variety of recreational challenges to meet the needs of all levels of participants. For the more experienced, we hold a series of treks and climbs. But for those who just want to get out for a few hours, we hold hikes - or "Take-A-Hikes," as we call them - in various cities throughout the United States. These moderate hikes allow breast cancer survivors, their families and friends, as well as anyone sympathetic to the cause, to participate and heighten awareness, raise funds and provide hope and support for others.

The hikes, which were launched in Seattle in 1995, have been held in Denver, Boise, Los Angeles, Tucson, Sun Valley and Boston. Attendance ranges from 100 to 800 hikers. Our goal is to have Take-A-Hike events in every state in the U.S. See the Calendar page for scheduled hikes, or contact the EI office to start one in your area.

Reasons:
The U.S. Center for Disease Control has officially proclaimed breast cancer an epidemic in this country. The Surgeon General has recently distributed the following information for reducing the risk of breast cancer:

Get Moderate Exercise Daily:
Just 20 minutes a day of activities that produce a slightly elevated heart rate is believed to reduce the risk of breast cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis - three major killers of women.

Get Outside And Breathe:
About a quarter of an hour exposure to sunlight daily helps the body form vitamin D, which is also believed to reduce the risk of breast cancer and osteoporosis.

Get Involved And Care:
People who are connected to others and involved in meaningful social activities, whether with their family, church, school, or communities, live better and longer, even when they develop illnesses.

Where Will the Money Go?
The funds raised will be divided equally between The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research and local/regional hospitals and/or health care facilities who will be encouraged to support the "TAKE-A-HIKE" project in their community.
