1993 - 1995: Assault on Aconcagua
This unprecedented climb was instrumental in calling attention to the breast cancer epidemic and the urgent need to find a cure. A one hour documentary on the climb has provided education and inspiration for thousands of women. Substantial funds were raised for research.
1994: first Pinnacle Picnic
This celebration of life includes a picnic dinner, auction and concert and has raised over $100,000 for research. Picnics have been held in Seattle and Sun Valley.
1995: Laura's book published
The Climb of My Life the chronicle of climbing through adversity to the summit of your capabilities has encouraged women nationally and internationally to take control of their own health and well-being.
1996: introduced TAKE-A-HIKE
These locally organized family hikes, fashioned after the Aconcagua expedition, encourage more survivors and their loved ones to get outside and do something healthy for themselves while raising funds for the cause. Hikes have been held in: Boise, Denver, Los Angeles, Salt Lake, Seattle, Sun Valley, Tucson. Additional hikes are planned for other cities across the U.S.
1997: continuation of Expedition Inspiration's "Climb for a Cure"
with climbs up Mt. Rainier in Washington, Mt. Whitney in California & Mt. Aspiring in New Zealand. Additional climbs are planned on Rainier, Whitney and Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa.
1997: started annual Breast Cancer Symposium
to encourage open exchange of novel ideas among leading researchers from across the country in an effort to accelerate finding a cure for breast cancer.
The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research founded by Laura Evans is a registered tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public trust foundation, committed to raising awareness and funds to aid in the eradication of breast cancer.
Over the last few years, The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research has made grants in excess of a quarter of a million dollars to numerous cancer research centers across the country. |
