Message from the Board of Directors
As the current Chair of the Board of Directors, I do not have the background most would expect. I am a retired, male executive of a forest products company. I am not a breast cancer survivor, a member of the medical community, nor
am I much of a mountain climber. However, I did have the
fortunate experience of meeting Laura Evans in 1998. She thought the Board could use my experience from the business world and asked me to join.
In February 1999 I joined Expedition Inspiration's team lead by Laura and Peter Whittaker's team to the top of Africa's tallest mountain (Mt. Kilimanjaro, 19,340'). If it were not for Laura and Peter's spirit, leadership and coaching, I never would have made it to the top. And, from that experience, I developed a real passion for Expedition Inspiration.
Recently, the Board of Directors revisited Expedition Inspiration's vision and mission statements. Our vision for the future was not changed. We think that "Until there's a cure, there's a climb" is still an appropriate long-term goal.
Our mission statement simply reflects the way in which we intend to accomplish our vision. The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research raises awareness and resources to ensure the ongoing success of the annual breast cancer symposium and benefits innovative breast cancer research, public education, and patient support.
As the Chair of the Board, I will do what I can to be sure that the organization's programs and activities are aligned with the vision and mission statements. I would like to thank all of you who have supported our activities in the past and look forward to your continuing support.
