7th Annual LA Take-A-Hike Paramount Ranch in the Santa Monica National Recreation Area was the backdrop for the Seventh Annual Los Angeles Take-A-Hike. Over 1000 hikers and 250 volunteers and support staff came out on a beautiful October morning to raise funds for breast cancer research. The funds benefit the UCLA/Jonsson and USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Centers, as well as The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research. The opening ceremonies included Dr. Michael Press, Professor of Pathology at USC and Dr. Helena Chang, Director of the Revlon UCLA Breast Center with updates on their recent research efforts. Actress Tea Leoni and fitness expert Kathy Smith led the hikers through warm-up exercises. Both celebrities have supported the LA Take-A-Hike for years! Over $125,000 was raised this year, thanks to the efforts of many, including: Sarah Korda, who organized the HUGE silent auction, Theresa Pleth, who organized our biggest team turnout EVER, corporate sponsors American Express, WholeFoods and Guess? Inc., Team Guess? for their amazing fundraising efforts, and Tashia Hinchcliffe who, for the second year in a row, was the top individual fundraiser! The innovative Steering Committee developed Spiritual Bands as a new way to raise money. These were designed by Dylan Rogers. Thank you to Talia Block for your work on this new and exciting product. None of the success of this great event would have been possible without the dedication of Chair, BJ Dockweiler and the tireless Steering Committee. Hundreds of volunteer hours go into organizing the LA Take-A-Hike.
