Breast cancer research scientists from around the world participated in the Eighth Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium held February 25-29, 2004 in Sun Valley, Idaho. The Symposium, titled, "Breast Cancer—The Development and Validation of New Therapeutics," was chaired by Marc Lippman, MD, Chair - Department of Internal Medicine, University of Michigan and Expedition Inspiration Scientific Advisor. Brenda Himelfarb, EI Board Member and Michael Press, MD, PhD, USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at 2004 Symposium. Dr. Chris Benz, Director of The Buck Institute for Age Research, stated, "...I was particularly impressed by the enthusiasm and creative thinking that went into our final Consensus Development discussion." Research grants were made available to participants and young researchers. EI Announces 9th Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium Expedition Inspiration's Ninth Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium, entitled "Breast Cancer—New Biology with Therapeutic Impact" will be held February 23-27, 2005 in Sun Valley, Idaho. Once again, top researchers from around the world will take part in this interactive scientific presentation. Mark Your Calendar—The public is invited to the Open Forum on Thursday, February 24, at the Sun Valley Inn. First New Hampshire Take-A-Hike Honors Joyce Hals Americorps/City Year Volunteers and (far right) Lynn Hamilton, Steering Committee Member at Mt. Major, N.H. A beautiful fall morning greeted hardy hikers of all ages andfitness levels, as they hit the trail at Mt. Major, near Alton Bay on Sunday, October 10, 2004. The event raised funds for breast cancer research at The Norris Cotton Cancer Center inaffiliation with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Peter Kaufman, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Center, spoke of the ongoing research and services available to patients. Expedition Inspiration's first New Hampshire Take-A-Hike was dedicated to Joyce Hals, who had chaired two Boston Hikes. Special memories of Joyce were shared by her husband, Finn and her many friends and family members who hiked in Joyce's memory. This event would not have happened without the vision and dedication of our volunteer Hike Chair, Jennifer Moynihan. Thank you Jenn!
