SUN, SUN AND MORE SUN FOR 9th ANNUAL EXPEDITION INSPIRATION TAKE-A-HIKE HELD AT REDHOOK ALE BREWERY IN WOODINVILLE, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2006

Event raises over $25,000 to benefit UW/SCCA Fund for Breast Cancer

Men, women and children of all ages and fitness levels hit the trails in Woodinville, WA for the 9th Annual Expedition Inspiration Take-A-Hike held at the Redhook Ale Brewery on Sunday, September 24.2006.  The morning event included hiking, biking, and skating opportunities for participants.  Breakfast thanks to Tully’s and a Subway (Bellevue) lunch were provided.  Participants warmed up to the energetic encouragement of Karen Carriker, our volunteer personal trainer.

The event raised over $25,000 for the Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research and for research, under the direction of Dr. Julie Gralow, at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Take-A-Hike also featured a raffle and silent auction.  Booths offered information about breast cancer prevention, exercise and nutrition.   The day of fun in the sun was designed to raise awareness about the disease and to pay tribute to those who have fought, or are still fighting breast cancer.

Special thanks to Edna Campbell, WNBA’S breast cancer advocate for her inspiring pre-hike words! Top fundraisers at this years hike are Chris Jarchow, Cathy Powell and Ramon Cruz.  THANKS YOU! Additional thanks to National Sponsors; The North Face, BACKPACKER Magazine, Prive - formule aux herbes and BE Bars: exclusively at Target. Pharmaceutical sponsors: Norvartis Oncology, AstraZeneca, Roche, MYRIAD and Genentech BioOncology.  A big thank you to local sponsors – Redhook Ale Brewery, Subway (Bellevue) Woodinville Fire, The Copy Company, Tully’s, McNaughton Development, Augus Realty LLC and Gregg’s Cycle – Greenlake.

A most important thanks goes to our volunteer Steering Committee for a job well done!

Expedition Inspiration was founded in 1993 by breast cancer survivor Laura Evans to raise awareness and research funds and to educate and support those affected by the disease. Funds are raised through treks, hikes and other outdoor activities.
