12th ANNUAL EXPEDITION INSPIRATION TAKE-A-HIKE ON OCTOBER 13, 2007 RAISES $75,000 FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH
Celebrities Shannon Tweed and her daughter, Sophie Tweed-Simmons, (A&E’s Gene Simmons Family Jewels), CCH Pounder (FX’s The Shield), Christina Chambers (ABC’s One Life to Live) and Dr. Frank Ryan, plastic surgeon to the stars, headed into the great outdoors to help stamp out breast cancer one hill at a time at the 12th Annual Expedition Inspiration Take-A-Hike on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at Paramount Ranch in Agoura, California. They led some 400 hikers in beginning, intermediate and advance hikes and helped raise $75,000 for breast cancer research at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center/Lee Breast Center and the Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research.
The rains held off and cool temperatures provided perfect hiking conditions. The hikes offered sweeping vistas of the Santa Monica Mountains, glimpses of the Pacific Ocean, fresh air, and the opportunity to mingle with the celebrity hosts. Hikers also enjoyed delicious food, live musical entertainment by Unkle Monkey and a raffle. Booths offered information about breast cancer prevention, exercise and nutrition.
Sponsors of Expedition Inspiration Take-A-Hike included Adventure Babe, Backpacker, CDW, Didio Ice, Dole Foods, Energy Club, Gelson’s, Hawk Signs, IZZE, La Brea Bakery, LA Specialty Produce, Mentor, Mink Radiologic Imaging, NY Bagel, Peter Shaver, Privé, Realtee, (In memory of) Riva and Bob Frederick, Scott (sunglasses), SIGG, Talia and Tom Block Family, Volvic, WellnessPro, Whole Foods, and Wild Oats.
Held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), Take-A-Hike is designed to raise awareness about the disease and to pay tribute to those who have fought, or are still fighting breast cancer. Breast cancer affects one in every eight American women and is the leading cause of death of women ages 35 to 54. There are 1.8 million women in this country who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and 1 million more who have the disease and don’t know it.
