Expedition Inspiration Second Annual Moonlight Snowshoe Celebration Huge Success Sunday, January 28, 2007 at The Valley Club
Event Raises $35,000 for Unique Breast Cancer Symposium and Innovative Research
A breathtaking moon in transit over Wood River Valley skies cast long shadows on a myriad of snowshoeing adventurers as they climbed for a cure during Expedition Inspiration’s Second Annual Moonlight Snowshoe Celebration on Sunday, January 28th. With tiki torches and the shimmer of crystalline snow illuminating the way, frigid evening temperatures could not dissuade the indelible spirit of survivors, their families and friends in throwing the gauntlet at the breast cancer epidemic effecting one in seven women.
Immediately following the snowshoe, merriment inside raised $35,000 for the Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research, with proceeds directly targeted for the Eleventh Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium to take place early March in Sun Valley. Designed as an opportunity for some of the world’s preeminent scientists involved in breast cancer research to convene, Expedition Inspiration also gives the public an opportunity to interact with the researchers during its Open Forum to be held Thursday, March 1st.
Warming up to a sumptuous meal and hand selected wines, eager guests bid on an array of fabulous packages offered in honor, celebration, or memory of someone directly affected by breast cancer. “We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming generosity offered by our community’s businesses and private individuals in donating to our event….this level of compassion is not only evidence of the impact this disease has made on us all, but our collective determination to find a solution,” reflected Suzanne Mulenos, Expedition Inspiration Board Member, who spearheaded the event.

Congratulations and thanks go out to Juli Watson, Board Member, and her auction committee, whose teamwork was a huge part of the evening’s success, to the snowshoe trail volunteers who set a spectacular course, and to the hard working efforts of the Expedition Inspiration staff, Katie Powell, Carol O’Loughlin, and Laurita Crabtree. Special thanks to the ever witty emcee, Brad Mathews, and to Wood River High School’s Colla Voce Jazz Choir, directed by Max Stimac, whose heartwarming melodies brought the audience to their feet in ovation. Live auction models Amy Stoll as Marilyn Monroe, Rob Freeman as Andre’ Agassi, as well as the smooth sounds of Grammy nominee Jeff Crandall added entertainment to the sold out crowd of nearly 160 people.
Our thanks go out to all who attended and supported this wonderful community event. What a special energy there was that night under the Wood River Valley stars. Plans are already underway for next year’s celebration
Expedition Inspiration was founded in 1993 by breast cancer survivor Laura Evans to raise awareness and research funds, as well as educate and support those affected by the disease. Through treks, hikes and other outdoor activities, the fund has donated over $2 million towards breast cancer research. |
