A sell-out crowd was greeted to an appropriate pink-hued twilight as they snowshoed at the Elkhorn Golf Club in support of breast cancer research during The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research Third Annual Moonlight Showshoe Celebration on Saturday, February 16th. Snowshoers toasted to their trek at an ice carved champagne bar.

Inside the Clubhouse, participants enjoyed drinks and a tapas-style dinner, while perusing and bidding on fabulous silent auction items. Lucky bidders also purchased live auction packages, including an African Photo Safari and Alaskan Grizzly Bear Adventure. Heidi Mickelson, Chair, EI Board of Directors welcomed the supporters and thanked all for their continued support of the organization. Dr. Ron Dorn, EI Medical Advisory Board Member spoke to the crowd about climbing Aconcagua with EI founder, Laura Evans and spoke of the tremendous influence Expedition Inspiration has made in the funding of cutting-edge research. The evening concluded with a rollicking good time featuring “Funny Guy” Mike Murphy.

The Moonlight Snowshoe Celebration evening raised nearly $40,000. As EI Board Member and event Co-Chair, Suzanne Mulenos reflected on the amazing efforts of all involved, “It is my mission in life that my daughter and nieces will be able to tell a story to the children in their life, that might go something like this....’Once upon a time, there was this disease called breast cancer.....’ “.

Proceeds from The Moonlight Snowshoe Celebration will go directly towards funding Expedition Inspiration’s Twelfth Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Medical Symposium and subsequent Collaborative and Young Investigator grants. The Symposium will be held in Sun Valley in March 5-9. Expedition Inspiration invites the public to an Open Forum on Thursday, March 6 to listen to a panel discussion and participate in a question and answer session with Symposium participants. This is a rare chance to witness the brilliance of some of the world’s top researchers in the field of breast cancer and is free of charge. Contact Expedition Inspiration for more information.
Expedition Inspiration, which holds treks, hikes, and other activities to raise money for breast cancer research, is headquartered in Ketchum, Idaho. Contact: (208) 726-6456 or e-mail ei@expeditioninspiration.org.

Moonlight Snowshoe Auction Featured Rare Alaska Grizzly Expedition

bear
Attendees were offered an opportunity to literally walk on the “Wilde” side with licensed outfitter Buck Wilde, who has taken over 1,000 adventurous guests to Katmai National Park since 1991.  In filming the BBC documentary about Buck’s treks, David Attenborough said, “Most Alaskans avoid grizzly encounters.  Not Buck Wilde.  We’ve come here to meet the Bear Whisperer.”  Wilde generously donated this incredible trip to Expedition Inspiration which was auctioned during the Moonlight Snowshoe Celebration.

The 4-day 3-night expedition includes a bush flight from Kodiak, sleeping and dining tents inside bear-resistant perimeters, “Eating Like A Bear” home cooked meals and guided walks.  This once in a lifetime experience retails for $4,000.
