![]() Expedition Inspiration incorporates a variety of recreational challenges to meet the needs of all levels of participants. For the more experienced, we hold a series of treks and climbs. But for those who just want to get out for a few hours, we hold hikes —"Take-A-Hikes"—in various cities throughout the United States. These moderate hikes allow breast cancer survivors, their families and friends, as well as anyone sympathetic to the cause, to participate and heighten awareness, raise funds and provide hope and support for others. The hikes, which were launched in Seattle in 1995, have been held in Denver, Boise, Los Angeles, Tucson, Sun Valley, Boston and New Hampshire. Attendance ranges from 100 to 800 hikers. New Hampshire :: Hikers Brave Cool Temps to Participate in Expedition Inspiration's Sixth Annual New Hampshire Take-A-Hike Sunday, October11, 2009 at Mt. Major. Event Raises Nearly $20,000 for Breast Cancer Research at The Norris Cotton Cancer Center and to Benefit The Expedition Inspiration Fund.
A beautiful, but crisp fall morning greeted 140 hikers ofall ages and fitness levels, as they hit the trail for Expedition Inspiration's Sixth Annual New Hampshire Take-A-Hike, held at Mt. Major, near Alton Bay on Sunday, October 11, 2009. The event offered beginning, intermediate and advanced trails, rewarding hikers with spectacular fall views, from the mountain summit, of Lake Winnipesaukee and surrounding lakes, waterways, and mountains. The Hike raised funds for cutting-edge breast cancer research under the direction of Dr. Peter A. Kaufman, Associate Professor of Medicine (Hematology/Oncology) at The Norris Cotton Cancer Center in affiliation with The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Expedition Inspiration. Los Angeles :: The Twelfth Annual Los Angeles Take-A-Hike featured celebrities Shannon Tweed and her daughter, Sophie Tweed-Simmons,(A&E's Gene Simmons Family Jewels), CCH Pounder (FX's The Shield), Christina Chambers (ABC's One Life to Live) and Dr. Frank Ryan, plastic surgeon to the stars, in the great outdoors on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at Paramount Ranch in Agoura, California. They led some 400 hikers in beginning, intermediate and advance hikes and helped raise $75,000 for breast cancer research at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center/Lee Breast Center and the Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research.
The rains held off and cool temperatures provided perfect hiking conditions. The hikes offered sweeping vistas of the Santa Monica Mountains, glimpses of the Pacific Ocean, fresh air, and the opportunity to mingle with the celebrity hosts. Hikers also enjoyed delicious food, live musical entertainment by Unkle Monkey and a raffle. Booths offered information about breast cancer prevention, exercise and nutrition.
